MMD Architecture is reaching a new phase of growth and we are looking to add a driven, talented, and hardworking Project Architect to our team to facilitate this growth. This role is not static - in the long-term, I’d like you to become a heavily relied upon member of the MMD Team creating strategies for growth, understanding the complexity of client engagements, and helping to propose paths for MMD Architecture to achieve the next phase of success.

Job Description


Type: Full-time, exempt position

Salary: $75,000-$100,000

Location: Austin, Texas*

II. Position Overview


We are seeking a full-time Project Architect to join our growing but tight-knit team. This role will develop and execute architectural and interior designs through all phases of residential and small commercial projects in a collaborative environment. This role will (i) interact frequently with the Principal Architect, clients, and external consultants, (ii) lead project meetings, and (iii) provide training and mentorship to junior staff members.


III. Role & Responsibilities


Client Relationship Management / Project Management

  • Work closely with the Principal Architect to create schematic designs and plans - responsible for the preparation of drawings.

  • Build strong relationships with our clients to understand their needs to formulate client services delivery approach and/or contribute to proposals.

  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget of client engagements and collaborate with clients to address any needed adjustments (e.g., change orders due to scope modifications).

  • Plan, initiate, and run project meetings with clients; serve as the main point of contact and liaison between clients and the MMD engagement team (“Engagement Team”).  

  • Set deadlines, monitor, and summarize progress of the Engagement Team, and provide updates to clients and the MMD team.

  • Direct and coordinate with engineers and third-party consultants.

  • Prepare projects for permit and submit permit applications and corresponding documents to the city.

  • Write building specs and select FFE.

  • Execute construction administration on site and coordinate any necessary corresponding paperwork for change orders.


Team Management / Internal Support

  • Provide junior staff with direction and vision, including motivating and mentoring staff, and providing constructive feedback.

  • Manage team resources and project scoping activities.

  • Oversee the collection and preparation of research conducted by the Engagement Team.

  • Participate in marketing efforts, including developing new clients and participating in presentations.


IV. Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional Degree (B. Arch or M. Arch)

  • Minimum of 5 years architectural experience (accreditation not required)

  • Proficiency in Revit.

  • Proficient rendering and modeling skills.

  • Experience working in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite (including Photoshop, In Design, and Illustrator) and Microsoft Office.

  • Knowledge of residential design and construction, including federal, state, and local zoning and codes.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in sustainability and green building.

  • Strong verbal and written skills, and the ability to tactfully convey complex matters to clients.

  • Meticulous, resourceful, and intellectually curious, with a desire support in a wide variety of areas.

  • The ability to handle multiple assignments, work well under pressure, and the flexibility to assist the MMD team in meeting client demands on accelerated schedules.

  • A growth mindset and drive to think creatively and proactively with regard to strategy, workflow, risk, and problem-solving.

  • Strong analytical skills, ability to quickly understand complex business problems with high level of ambiguity and provide potential solutions.

  • Ability to apply common sense to solve problems and make decisions on complex and unusual conditions.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish strong working relationships with other team members, clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors.

  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude, and a professional demeanor.
