Job Description:


Type: Full-time, exempt position

Salary: $60-80k DOE

Location: Austin, Texas

II. Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Designer to join our growing but tight-knit team. This role will develop and execute architectural and interior designs throughout all phases of residential and commercial projects in a collaborative environment. You will (I.) interact frequently with the Principal Architect, clients, and external consultants, (II.) lead project meetings, and (III.) provide training and mentorship to junior staff members.


III. Role & Responsibilities

  • Investigate, evaluate, and recommend design solutions that best meet the client’s needs.

  • Collaborate with the Principal Architect, MMD staff, consultants, engineers, and clients.

  • Work closely with the Principal Architect to create and develop schematic designs and plans - responsible for the preparation of drawings, renderings, and making adjustments based on feedback.

  • Perform basic project management – deploy resources, set deadlines, ensure schedule adherence, and provide updates to clients and the MMD team.

  • Prepare projects for permit and submit permit applications and corresponding documents to the city.

  • Prepare design presentations and lead client meetings.

  • Write building specs and select FFE.

  • Execute construction administration on-site and coordinate any necessary corresponding paperwork for change orders.

  • Provide junior staff with direction and vision, including motivating and mentoring staff, and providing constructive feedback.

  • Participate in business development and marketing efforts, including sourcing new clients and helping develop content for social media.


IV. Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Professional Degree (B. Arch or M. Arch)

  • 6-10 years post-bachelor’s degree Architecture firm experience.

  • Highly proficient in Revit.

  • Excellent rendering and modeling skills.

  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) and Microsoft Office.

  • An ability to demonstrate deep knowledge and understanding of all phases of residential project design and management, from Pre-Design through Construction Administration.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local zoning and codes (with a preference to Austin, TX).

  • Deep understanding of high-performing and environmentally sound building concepts and strategies

  • Excellent project management skills, strong problem-solving, technical, and communication skills, written and verbal.

  • The ability to manage multiple assignments, work well under pressure, and the flexibility to assist the MMD team in meeting client demands on accelerated schedules.

  • A growth mindset and drive to think creatively and proactively with regard to strategy, workflow, risk, and problem-solving.

  • Meticulous, resourceful, and intellectually curious, with a desire support in a wide variety of areas.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to quickly understand complex projects with a level of ambiguity and provide potential solutions.

  • Strong people skills and the ability to establish working relationships with team members, clients, consultants, vendors, and contractors.

  • Self-motivated with a positive attitude, and a professional demeanor. 

  • An interest in sustainability and green building practices.
