The clients wanted a modern Hill country Cabin feel for their second home.  Nestled on the bank of the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country, the existing home was completely closed off to the panoramic views of the woods, river and the bluffs beyond. The new owners recognized the potential of the site and brought MMD Architecture to the team. The Proposed plan involved a drastic intervention in the floorplan and in the structure of the house in the form of a complete gut of the interior and a large Gullwing hipped roof addition. The resulting floorplan opened up the back of the house to sweeping views of the wooded lot, river and cliffs. The 4 bedrooms and 3 full bathrooms   are placed strategically around a large great room to minimize circulation, maximize occupancy for long weekends and holidays with family and friends.

Large sliding glass doors and custom clerestory windows open up the interior to the  1600 sf exterior porch which is framed with mass timber trusses to keep the view to the river as unobstructed as possible and provide lots of entertainment space with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen. Timber trusses with  turnbuckle details continue inside to keep the vaulting continuous and maintain the sensation of the indoor and outdoor spaces as continuous.
