This design was originally driven by the need for extra space for visitors, but it quickly became apparent that an oversized, tree-covered backyard with a beautiful pool was visually disconnected from the main house. The proposal opens up the back wall of the existing house and locates the new guest house as a hinge between the house and the pool. A deck off the new house connects the yard to the pool deck; the minimal guest house packs a spacious master bedroom, a large bathroom, and a kitchen designed for entertaining. Clever storage in the living room and hallway maximizes space for visiting family and children.
